The new ideational divide: how domestic interests, values, and the perceived existential threat influence further EU integration
My dissertation project aims at solving the guiding puzzle of the conditions for either societal ideas’ or interests’ individual bearing
on the formation of the Czech, Lithuanian, Polish, and Slovak governmental preferences on the issues of Eurozone accession and of economic sanctions against Russia. For this purpose, the societal approach to governmental preference formation is employed. It explains the reasons for the prevalence of domestic value-based ideas and institutions in some cases and of material interests in other cases in shaping governmental preferences towards international economic governance.
