The Relevance of Political Cohesion for Truth and Reconciliation Commissions, funded by MERCUR Research
Truth and Reconciliation Commissions (TRCs) have been made under the expectations that getting people to comprehend the past will add to reconciliation between former enemies. Surprisingly, there is little amount of literature on how TRCs affect the communities and structures concerned. The proposed research topic will thus examine implications Political Cohesion has for states to even consider TRCs, and how political cohesion is furthered as an outcome of TRCs. Hence the hypotheses of the dissertation will be

  1. Political cohesion is one of the main conditions necessary to establish TRCs
  2. Political cohesion and reconciliation is furthered by TRCs
