The Impact of Societal Ideas and Material Interests on Development Policy: A Comparative Analysis of Mexico, South Korea and Turkey, funded by MERCUR Research
The doctoral project focuses on development policy preferences of middle-sized emerging countries through the cases of Mexico, South Korea and Turkey. It inserts the theoretical framework of the societal approach and argues that variations of governmental positions towards development policy correlate with differences in material interests and societal ideas prevalent in the domestic politics of donor countries. Accordingly, it conceptualizes the conditions for their prevalence vis-à-vis each other in shaping governmental preferences.
