Property and dignity - an alternative Approach to the housing issue
The unequal distribution of access to housing is causing an increase in social tensions in Germany and globally. One reason for this is that housing is a central prerequisite for a life in dignity and is closely linked to the opportunities for human development. Furthermore, real estate and the land underneath it, especially in metropolitan areas, are a source of unproductive profits for owners. The PhD project addresses all these problems by developing a dignity- and justice-sensitive concept of property which is developed to shed light on the different rights and duties of shareholders of real estate companies, (small) landlords and tenants. The analysis focuses in particular on the globalization of the real estate market and its relevance for international political negotiation processes.
